3 Simple Ways to Eat Healthy on a Budget

Do you believe it’s easy to eat healthy on a budget? If not, here are some ideas to help you out!

1. Plan, Prioritize, & Prepare!

I will toot this horn until my very last breath! Planning, Prioritizing and Preparing WILL make you more successful throughout your week. Picking a time slot in your busy week to sit down and THINK about how you will be successful is key.

I like to use Sunday morning to wake up, grab a cup of coffee (well, MUDwtr these days! HA!) and PLAN! If I do this successfully on Sunday, I am starting my week INTENTIONALLY and let me tell you it is a great feeling!

So grab a notebook, your cellphone, your calendar -- whatever you may use to plan and get going! Think about your goals for the week, plan your meals and your grocery list.

This is the best way to create healthy meals!

Using services like eMeals, Meijer Pick Up, Kroger ClickList (I wish we had this in Owosso) and Instacart is really helpful with quick shopping! Catch me at the gym and ask me all about eMeals and ClickList because I can talk your ear off about it! It will save you time and money shopping!

Using services like this helps eliminate over-buying and grabbing unhealthy foods along your way! It’s an automatic accountability buddy, when you are being mindful and you aren’t adding those cookies to your cart! WIN!

Key things here: Plan your week! Plan your workout times and physical activity and make them reality! Plan your meals, your grocery list and PREP them!

Being prepared every week will help you hit your goals!

2. Shop the Sales

Where can you get chicken cheapest this week? Where is the best deals on fruits and vegetables this week?

Grab the Sunday paper and review the ads!  If your not a newspaper person, you can see the ads right on your phone! Downloading the Kroger, Meijer and Aldi app are super helpful! You can add coupons and rewards right through the app, ca-ching!

Speaking of Aldi - GO! If you are on a tight budget, Aldi is where it is at. You can find awesome items there that are healthy and have great ingredients. They do seem to have rotating stock though and sometimes that can be hard. In my opinion, you can find some really great snack options there for great prices. For example Almonds, Cashews, Pistachio, Pumpkin seeds.

3. Keep It Simple

Eating a healthy diet does not have to be complex. Start where you are now (YOU CAN DO THIS! YOU CAN DO THIS NOW! - I can help!) and think about ways you can either add better options or plan better meals. I encourage you to try new things -- especially if you have time to! It doesn’t have to be that complex!
